New Interior Design Association launches
14 October 2009 GMT 14:49 (London)
The Interior Design Association (IDA) is here at the request of interior designers who believe it is time to enhance the standing of the interior design professional within the International contract interiors market.
It has been launched to represent practices and individuals, principally, but not exclusively, designing commercial interiors.
The IDA has an industry council made up of members and is led by Chairman, Mary Fox Linton. Council members so far include: Stephan Oberwegner of Max Bentheim, Kate Mooney of Occa Design, Charles Leon of Charles Leon Associate, Mark Plumtree of Plumtree Mee, Naomi Porter of Space Therapy, and Ken Giannini of Scott Brownrigg Interior Design.
“The IDA today is at the beginning of a journey, one which will be long and eventful but I believe highly rewarding,” explains Mary Fox Linton.
Ken Gianninni of Scott Brownrigg Interior Design adds: “We need an organisation that promotes a cross section of commercial designers and design companies’ interests. It is a member’s organisation and we set the agenda on what is important for all of us. Promoting best practice, education, research, legislation, standards and networking for example, may be some of the first benefits. It is a great challenge and great opportunity to forget the egos and try to build something that has lasting value to us all.”
The IDA will facilitate a strong and prosperous contract interiors market, with the protection of member’s commercial interests as a priority. This is possible by the professional skill and collective will of interior designers to make it happen. The IDA will promote and encourage the highest possible standards of design, service and professional performance.
Working on behalf of members to provide a crucial commercial advantage, the IDA will champion the importance of design right and press for improvements to legislation, create closer relationships with manufacturers and suppliers, take the profession to a higher status, and improve the commercial performance of members. The IDA will be the voice of the members and the industry on relevant issues and encourage a positive business environment
