Play with Dedon
22 April 2010 GMT 10:30
The first pieces of a new collaboration, ‘Play with Dedon’ designed by Philippe Starck were shown in Milan at a preview attended by the designer himself.
From its showroom in Zona Tortona, Dedon introduced the ‘Play’ armchair, which marries the high technology of a moulded polypropylene and fibreglass frame, with the unique style of chairs and backrests handcrafted by master artisans.
Based on a concept of interchangeable liaisons of materials, colours, and workings, Play opens up the possibilities of specially customised furniture in an array of combina¬tions.
Pieces can be redesigned to achieve a personal fit, ordered online, produced upon request, and utilise the client’s direct, emotional and creative inputs aim to make the design relationship more liberating and fun.
The chairs are durable, lightweight, and stackable, melding mirror-finish aluminium with solid teak, or polypropylene with Dedon’s hand-woven synthetic fibre.
Play is offered in several colourways of chalk and carbon, stone and terracotta, and bronze, with or without armrests.
The chair has also inspired the ‘Play with Dedon’ collection, a collaboration that encompasses the ‘Bistro’ table with its glazed porcelain ceramic tabletop that stands on a central pedestal made of moulded polypropylene, and ‘Dining’, a four-legged table in mirror-finish aluminium and profiled in alu¬minium.
As Dedon says, the chair is just the beginning.
