Intelligent Video Management Systems

Intelligent Video Management Systems (IVMS) are the latest development for controlling CCTV systems in hotels. The Vincent Hotel in Southport is the first in the industry to deploy the system from Human Recognition Systems (HRS). HRS is a Liverpool-based company who specialise in human behaviour analytics and biometrics in the field of security, working with governments, airports and in commerce to produce solutions to secure data, property and people. They have now developed this CCTV management product for use in the hotel and hospitality sector.
The system works by intercepting the raw data from 16 cameras on its way to storage on the hard disc and metatags it. The metadata describes events such as objects moving and logs them accordingly. The disc then records only events, saving up to 90 percent of the disc space used by a conventional system. Features of the system allow staff to be alerted to suspicious activity in real-time, track suspects as they move from area to area and, using facial recognition features look for other recordings that feature the suspect in the past. The search tool is quick and accurate, saving hours of trawling through conventional recordings. As alerts are automatic, no one needs to watch the screens constantly, allowing staff to concentrate on customer service.
In the hotel industry, IVMS can be used to protect moveable property such as art, furniture and decoration in public areas, to protect stock, and the performance of staff at times when management are not there to supervise - as well as promoting a feeling of wellbeing to guests.
The new CCTV installation at the recently opened Vincent Hotel has been tailored to take full advantage of the features, however, the system can be added retrospectively to currently fitted analogue, IP and megapixel CCTV systems, meaning its features can be obtained without disruption or redecoration.
