Geminex to develop Express by Holiday Inn at Royal Arsenal Riverside
26 May 2009 GMT 11:49 (London)
Berkeley Homes has agreed the sale of the hotel site at its Royal Arsenal Riverside development in Woolwich, London to Geminex Hotel and Leisure Management Ltd.
DTZ’s hospitality team acted exclusively for Berkeley Homes in tendering the hotel development opportunity. Significant interest was generated by DTZ leading to the land sale to Geminex, the owner and developer of upper end branded and independent hotels across the UK. Geminex plans to develop the 132-key Express by Holiday Inn and ancillary facilities with opening scheduled in 2011.
Royal Arsenal Riverside is a high quality mixed-use urban development scheme, where Berkeley Homes has already delivered 1,250 new homes, many in the numerous listed buildings, and a further 455 architecturally-designed new homes. The sale of the hotel site forms part of the new Masterplan which will include 3,700 new homes, a new public park that will run down to the banks of the Thames, additional bars, cafés, restaurants and office space.
Royal Arsenal Riverside is being developed with the support of the London Development Agency (LDA). The LDA is a key partner in bringing forward the regeneration of the Royal Arsenal in their role as freeholder. They have facilitated the development through the initial capital investment to provide the infrastructure at an early stage and have continued to work with Berkeley Homes on the regeneration.
