WATG-designed InterContinental resort breaks ground in Vietnam
15 October 2009 GMT 19:32 (Seattle)
Destination design firm WATG provided architectural design services for the 261-room, five-star resort Binh Tien Beach Resort and Spa which is set to open in 2011 and will be operated by InterContinental Hotels & Resorts.
The project is located on the South China Sea along the southern coastline of Vietnam. The mountains of Nui Chua National Park form the backdrop of the resort, while the hotel is situated on a ribbon of four kilometers of white sand beach.
According to Tom Williams, AIA, LEED AP, senior project designer, “We conceptualized the resort as three distinct villages each appealing to different demographic groups.”
All dining amenities have been situated directly on the beach, and an innovative “Inspiration Space” has been conceived as an iconic tower with 360-degree views to allow guests a quiet and reflective area for contemplation. The spa is situated within the interior of the resort to maximize views of the golf course.
