EPR have been appointed by the Turf Club of Ireland to implement a masterplan prepared by the practice for the redevelopment of Ireland's prestigious Curragh Racecourse.
The first phase submitted earlier this year for town planning approval will be for a new hotel. Planning approval is expected to be forthcoming soon.
Planned directly overlooking the race track, the 72 bedroom hotel has been designed with extensive conference, dining, bar and leisure facilities. It will be linked to future grandstands to create an effective extension for race goers on race days, whilst providing a revenue-earning venue throughout the year.
In a separate appointment won in international competition, EPR have commenced the design for new stands which will be phased to permit use of the course through the majority of the construction period. A planning application is due to be made in the autumn of this year.
Overall the development will provide the Curragh with a venue worthy of its standing as one of Europe's leading racecourses whilst facilitating a wider range of non-race day uses.
Chairman and Chief Executive Gregory Craig said "We are delighted to have been successful in winning this prestigious commission and look forward to working with our client and professional colleagues to realise a 21st century facility for this famous racecourse".
