W Hotels is to make its debut in Shanghai with a 400-room hotel in the city's central financial district of Pudong. It is due to open in 2008.
The newly built hotel will be the 28th 'W' in the group since the brand's New York debut in 1998.

The hotel is being developed by Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited. Pudong is located on the eastern side of Huangpu River of Shanghai and has grown at a phenomenal speed since the city started its development ten years ago.
The area is now the base of the emerging hi-tech industry and modern manufacturing industries of Shanghai, and is the focus and symbol of China's economic reform. W Shanghai - Pudong will feature the dining, nightlife and entertainment options for which the brand is known, complete with a spa and retail store.
