Jeffrey Beers and David Rockwell work on new concept for Kerzner International
Kerzner International is to launch a 600 room all-suite resort featuring designs by interior architects Jeffrey Beers and David Rockwell at its Atlantis development on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The Cove Paradise is due to open in March 2007.
A company spokesperson said: "It's all about creating a sophisticated zone, something that is more luxurious, more edgy and truly different to anything that exists currently in the Bahamas."
Perched above two of the most magnificent beaches in the world the resort will feature a Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill, private all-adult and family pools, and cabanas with drop-down walls for complete ocean/pool viewing.
Guests will step out onto a circular porte-cochere offering commanding views of the ocean and beyond. A series of interlocking open-air covered walkways have been envisioned by Kerzner Chairman Sol Kerzner to encourage guests to interact with the surrounding nature. Suites within the resort will feature an understated contemporary decor of earth tones and light wood panelling with floor-to-ceiling windows and terraces. Bathrooms have marble floors, granite vanities, deep soaking tubs and glass-bricked rain showers. The Ultra Pool, Ultra-Beach and Ultra Lounge areas promise to be "colourful, energetic, exciting but above all, sophisticated."
Surrounding the pool area are 22 cabanas, designed by Jeffrey Beers, each opening directly onto the beach. Reached by private, walkways from the pool, these teak wood louvred villas can be opened completely on all three sides. Sitting across a glass bridge above a tropical water garden, there will be a new 30,000 ft2, 35 treatment-room Mandara Spa.
Kerzner International has even commissioned a sound-track for the resort, with eight originally composed tracks each depicting a particular part of the hotel.
