Jestico + Whiles work on roll-out of Andel's for Vienna International
Vienna International have commenced the European roll-out of their Andel's brand with the Jestico + Whiles designed, 158 bedroom Andel's Krakow, located close to Krakow's centre of tourism, Rynek Glowny, the market square, and adjacent to the emerging fashionable retail and cultural quarter centred on Krakow's historic main railway station.
The roll-out follows the great success of the Jestico + Whiles designed Andel's Prague (now the top performing hotel in the Vienna International stable) and its sister hotel Andel's Suites which has become a favourite haunt of the international film crews filming at the famous Barandov Studios.
The brand takes its name from the location of the first hotel in the now fashionable retail, business and cultural district of Andel (meaning "angel") in Smichov, Prague 5. It is a design led, boutique four-star brand targeting both leisure and business guests by providing exceptionally high quality, rooms and suites. It also incorporates substantial, highly serviced modern conferencing and banqueting facilities.
As well as catering to increasing numbers of tourists, new hotels in Poland and in Krakow in particular, are ideally placed to respond to the rapid expansion in demand for Poland as an easily reached geographical hub for many eastern, central and western European businesses.
Andel's Krakow develops the design language established by the original Andel's. The arrival is via a honed limestone and basalt reception, with convex burnished bronze plates screening the restaurant. These plates are lined to the restaurant side with flame coloured soft suede. The restaurant forms one side of the new urban piazza, with the new cafes and art galleries of the railway station development to the other side.
The lounge bar is lined with riven basalt and floored with heavy limestone slabs, and focuses on a bar made of oiled end-grain timber blocks, commonly used for flooring, with insets of glass stained with purple ink. The furniture is upholstered in deep purple velvet and moss green leather.
The guest rooms incorporate a window of firey orange glass and inky glass, viewed as an illuminated artwork from the bedroom, and inset back-lit panels of purple glass. Graphite slips define the wet room shower and extend to the ceiling creating a cave-like alcove.
Andel's Krakow opens in March 2007.Design is also well underway at the Jestico + Whiles studios on the second Polish Andel's, Andel's Lodz , which opens in 2008. The 80,000m2, 320-room hotel will be accommodated in a red brick textile factory of the famous Izrael Poznanski, built in 1858. Jestico + Whiles has also commenced design work for a further Andel's, in Berlin.
