MacDonald Hotel - Manchester

MacDonald Hotels invests £33 million in redevelopment of sixties landmark

A new £33 million hotel is to be developed in Manchester by Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, occupying the former BT building on London Road, which has been vacant since the telecoms giant moved to another site in the city.

The BT building is located near the city's main train station Piccadilly, where City Inn are also developing a newbuild 284-room hotel alongside the existing Malmaison and Rossetti hotels.

The Macdonald Manchester hotel will have 215 bedrooms. Due to open in October 2007, it will feature a glass clad exterior, and extensive conference and event amenities capable of holding up to 280 delegates. A 150 seated restaurant will be situated on the hotel's first floor.

Macdonald Hotels deputy chief executive, David Guile said: "This hotel is certainly one of Group's most ambitious developments to date and will be an excellent addition to our existing portfolio of premium four and five star properties across the UK.

We have a unique opportunity to give Manchester a contemporary and luxurious hotel whilst retaining the heritage of one of its well-known landmarks. Indeed, every aspect of this development has been designed to offer its guests the very best in terms of comfort, style and ultra modern amenities."

The hotel will closely follow the launch of the company's new £30m, 275 bedroom hotel in the city centre of Bristol in March 2007.
