Golden Tulip UK to develop new hotels at Manchester and Bournemouth
Golden Tulip UK is continuing its expansion with plans recently announced for hotels at Manchester Airport and Bournemouth. Both hotels are scheduled to open in 2007 and they will have a combined development value of some £25 million.
These latest deals come only a few months after the company announced sites for four new Tulip Inns. The company has agreed a 25 year lease with Manchester Airport Developments Ltd for a 135 bed Tulip Inn at junction 6 of the M56 which will open in 2007. The hotel will have a 140 seat Bibo Bar & Bistro, free on-site parking for 108 cars and Simply Meet meeting rooms.
The new hotel will have well-appointed, air-conditioned bedrooms, super size walk-in power showers, satellite TV with Sky Sports and free Wi Fi access throughout the building.
John Atkins, strategy & development director at MADL, commented: "This hotel, with its striking contemporary design, will add to the 1,500 bedrooms already serving the airport. Golden Tulip is a complementary international brand for the airport's leisure and business customer and MADL looks forward to a long relationship."
In addition, Golden Tulip UK has taken a 35 year lease of the Metro Hotel in Bournemouth from GSC Property Holdings plc.
A £9m refurbishment programme will begin shortly to bring the hotel up to Golden Tulip standards. The hotel - to be renamed the Golden Tulip Bournemouth Ð currently has 124 bedrooms, a business centre, an indoor spa, a 130-seat restaurant and an additional function room.
Peter Roberts, chief executive of Golden Tulip UK, said: "Bournemouth is the ideal spot for our second Golden Tulip. All Golden Tulips offer 'international standards and local flavours' and I am confident the new hotel will benefit from the town's great popularity as both a conference and leisure destination."
