Shangri-La - Tokyo

Shangri_la sign agreement with Mori Trust Co for hotel at Marunouchi Trust Tower

Shangri-La International Hotel Management has signed a lease agreement with Mori Trust Co. Ltd. to equip and manage the Shangri-La Hotel Tokyo, marking the group's Japanese debut.

Scheduled to open by 1 March 2009, the hotel will be located in the Marunouchi district, beside the Tokyo Station, the capital's only station with connections throughout Japan, including the world-famous 'Shinkansen' bullet train.

The hotel will occupy the top 11 floors of the 37-storey Marunouchi Trust Tower Main Building, currently under construction by the TODA Construction Group. Kajima Corporation is also involved in the construction of the new building with KPMG Japan performing a project management role. The architects are Mitsui Fudosan Co Ltd, Hopkins Architects Ltd and Yasui Architects & Engineers, Inc. The hotel's 204 guestrooms will be an average of 50m2 in size. The lower floors of the building will house offices and retail outlets.

Guests will be greeted at the 28th floor lobby with views of the Marunouchi area, as well as Tokyo Bay to the East, through a backdrop of eight-metre high, floor-to-ceiling windows. Meeting and banqueting space will include 400m2 of grand ballroom and function areas, as well as a chapel for weddings, renewal of vows and blessing ceremonies.

Dining possibilities will include a glass-ceilinged all-day dining restaurant on the 28th floor and a speciality restaurant on the 29th floor.

Mori Trust Group has been developing hotels since 1973 and has emerged as a significant player in the Japanese hotel market. As well as operating numerous resort and golf country clubs, it also owns the Yokohama Grand Intercontinental Hotel and the Conrad Tokyo at Shiodome via a subsidiary. www.mori-trust.co.jp
