Andaz

West Hollywood, USA

Janson Goldstein to transform legendary LA hotel into Hyatt's second Andaz.

The Hyatt West Hollywood has taken on near-mythical status in the pantheon of Los Angeles hotels. In the late Sixties, it was nicknamed ‘The Riot House’ thanks to the rock n’roll antics of its guests. This was the hotel where Keith Richards famously threw a TV from the windows, and John Bonham of Led Zeppelin is said to have driven a motorcycle down its corridors.

Now the hotel is entering a new phase, as Hyatt Hotels & Resorts transforms the Sunset Strip hotel into its second Andaz hotel, following the brand’s debut at the Great Eastern Hotel in London last year.
New York-based architecture and interior design firm Janson Goldstein LLP has designed the 14-storey Andaz West Hollywood as ‘a series of engaging spaces featuring design sensibilities tied to the locale’.

As with the first Andaz, guests will be checked in by multi-tasking ‘hosts’ in “a non-traditional social space”. There will also be an emphasis on environmentally friendly design. Windows will be specially coated to reduce solar heat gain and wood flooring has been harvested using sustainable forestry practices.

The design will also incorporate references to West Hollywood culture, including quotes from local neighborhood personalities, art installations from Los Angeles artists and impromptu music performances from up-and-coming musicians. The hotel will feature 257 rooms, including 20 suites, a rooftop terrace, restaurant and bar.
