The European Hotel Design Awards 2008

4-5 November 2008, London, UK

HOTEL DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT & ARCHITECTURE
EXHIBITION, CONFERENCE & AWARDS
4TH-5TH NOVEMBER 2008 - THE BUSINESS DESIGN CENTRE, LONDON

Now in its eleventh year The European Hotel Design Awards celebrated the best of architecture and design in front of an audience of 850 industry professionals. The ceremony, held at the newly opened Sofitel London Heathrow, Terminal Five, recognised the work of architects, designers, hotel groups, and developers across 18 different categories. A panel of 16 judges, led by Jeremy Blake of Purcell Miller Tritton, considered the nominations for the months leading up to the event before winners were announced on 6th November.

The results reflected the truly pan-European achievement of hotels and their architects and designers as well as the exciting diversity that characterises today’s hotel industry.

Having won the awards for its innovation, graphic design, and technology, the prestigious European Hotel of the Year Award went to CitizenM and Concrete Architectural Associates. Matt Turner, Editor of Sleeper Magazine, presented the award and said: “This was perhaps the most hotly contested decision I have seen the judging panel have to make in the six years I have been involved in these awards. But I think it is fair to say that the eventual winner is a hotel that stood out from the competition in all aspects of its conception. Not just it’s design and architecture, but also its use of technology, it’s marketing, its future development potential and most importantly, the seamless integration of all these into a product that offers the guest a rewarding experience.

The winning project was acknowledged by the panel to be a radically new hotel concept that will have considerable influence on others in the industry for years to come.”
